    Regulated Versus Unregulated
Broadcasting is regulated and has high barriers to entry. Nanocasting is unregulated and the absence of licensing requirements or astronomically expensive equipment means virtually anyone can start an Internet radio station. While broadcasters are preoccupied with regulatory issues and the concerns of a maturing industry, Nanocasters are preoccupied with the issues typically surrounding "emerging" industries like standardization, defining best practices and establishing infrastructure.

Broadcasters recognized the need to associate with each other to build their industry very early on. Likewise, the INA is an association of Nanocastors who are committed to advocate for the industry, help identify, establish and exchange best practices and promote effective self-regulation and policies that promote growth.
