Q. Why is there a need for the INA?
A. Because Internet radio is different from terrestrial radio in fundamental ways.
Local Versus Global First, conventional radio is primarily local focused on community interest, concerned with community affairs and is guided by local community taste. Nanocasting is community radio as well, but not geographic communities, communities of common interests, common concerns and common lifestyles. These "affinity" groups may be located anywhere in the global village and are often half a world apart. Moving from local to global programming involves a different set of issues, different challenges and a different sort of media infrastructure.
The INA's mission is to consider these issues and help to develop the support systems for this new media to become a viable industry.
