Currently, podcasting and vanity radio are unfettered by professional standards. Profanity and obscenities are routine and miscues are typical. At the moment, the FCC rules on obscenity don't cover podcasts, so anything goes. However, a level of standardization, professionalism and a commitment to ethical dealings is part of the infrastructure required to robustly commercialize Nanocasting.
INA is committed to self-regulation and is spearheading an international discussion to define the best practices by which our members will agree to abide. At the end of the day, the big difference between not-for-profit podcasting and commercial Nanocasting will be quality and professionalism.
